Guest Speakers: Friends of the Penacook Branch Library, Wendy Follansbee and Paula Miner

After presenting a brief history of library services in Penacook since 1850 and the role of the Friends of the Library at the Penacook Branch located in the old Police Station on Merrimack Street, Wendy offered the following ways in which PVA can help keep the library in Penacook:

  • Support the library with your attendance
  • Share information about library events on the PVA website
  • Attend library events
  • Offer ideas for library programs
  • Volunteer to help or join the Friends of the Library
  • Participate in budget meetings and charrettes affecting the library

A Walking Tour of Penacook was suggested to highlight not only the library but also other points of interest in Penacook. Discussion included

  • periodic organized tours
  • self-directed walking tours
  • a walking scavenger hunt

Murray Farms Greenhouse Tour was held May 10. A small group got to see the new products for 2012 and receive gardening tips from Dave Murray.

Penacook Farmers Market

  • Mike Cotton is looking for entertainment/musicians if members have any suggestions.
  • 9 vendors have signed up.
  • The market will run from June 18 to October 8 from 4:30 to 6:30 on Mondays. The market will be closed on Labor Day.
  • PVA will sell water.
  • Mike will work alternate Mondays. Stand-ins for Mike are needed. A schedule will be available for signing up.
  • The market is opened rain or shine unless there is lightning.

Opening night will be advertised with a mailing to all homes in a mile radius of the Rolfe House. This will reach 1400 homes for $165. The permit has been purchased. There will also be flyers for distribution.

Event: Magic Lantern is scheduled for October 26.
