Penacook Village Association Meeting
December 11, 2010

Meeting Minutes

Attendees: Mike Cotton, Steve Shurtleff, Peter Dodge, Ed Bush, Kathy Bush, Donna Marston, Teri Maxwell, Ralph Harwood, Brent Todd, Lois Bradley, Warren Leary, Dianna Leary, and Lynne Raleigh.

Minutes for November 13, 2010, were approved.

Treasurer’s Report:

  • Donations at the Tree Lighting will be reserved as a separate line item and not added to the general fund.
  • Invoices were distributed for annual dues. Remaining invoices will be mailed.

Possible topics for January and February meetings:

  • Information about the road modifications on Rt. 4 at the blinking light
  • Tannery and other Penacook updates from Matt Walsh
  • Overnight parking from Jessica Eshleman of Main Street Concord

Event Reports:

Tree Lighting

  • Thank you to Mike Cotton for news article with pictures.
  • Larger crowd than previous years
  • For 2011: address safety issues with Rt. 3 traffic; add Santa visit.

Chilifest: no new date set; new venue needed

Penacook Historical Society Christmas event well attended

Welcome to Village Signs: Condition is unacceptable. Warren and Dianna Leary will repair, repaint and re-letter with a new color scheme that will provide better contrast.

Committee Policy: Plans developed by a committee must be communicated to Board members for review and sign off. Email exchanges are acceptable.

Citizen Recognition and Citizen of the Year

  • To celebrate exceptional service by Penacook residents, provide letter of appreciation and add to the honor roll page on the PVA website. Four people were suggested for 2010 recognition. Nominations for additional 2010 Citizen of the Year candidates should be submitted by the January meeting with presentation slated for the February Annual Meeting. Local business participation will be sought after initial presentations are made.
  • A policy is needed to equitably recognize or honor Penacook citizens for service above and beyond.

PVA support of overnight parking resolution: In anticipation of the public hearing in January to address the ban on overnight parking, PVA supports lifting the ban in the Village to foster existing and potential upper story housing.

Recent American Legion Activity:

  • Sets of flags have been distributed to local schools and provided for the Square.
  • Concerns about the appearance of entry points to Penacook were discussed including mowing and general clean up by the City.
